Maersk Opens S$200 Million Automated Logistics Hub “World Gateway II”
Global shipping and logistics giant Maersk officially opened its new regional logistics hub, World Gateway II, on March 18. Located near Tuas Port, the facility represents an investment of over S$200 million (approximately US$150 million).
Spanning 1.1 million square feet (around 102,000 sq m), the highly automated centre features autonomous mobile robots and automated storage and retrieval systems. With its launch, Maersk’s total logistics space in Singapore has doubled to more than 2 million square feet, making Singapore the company’s second-largest logistics base globally after its headquarters in Denmark.
The hub already has a 70% occupancy rate and serves sectors such as fast-moving consumer goods, retail, healthcare, and technology. At the opening ceremony, Singapore’s Deputy Prime Minister Gan Kim Yong noted that the facility will enhance the country’s logistics throughput and reinforce its role as a regional platform for e-commerce and supply chain management.
